On Thursday, a Vietnamese court sentenced real estate tycoon Truong Mi Lan to death for her involvement in a VND304 trillion ($12.46 billion) financial fraud case.
The trial, which had been ongoing since March 5, ended with a verdict that was one of the dramatic results of the campaign against corruption in the country.
As a result, Truong Mi Lan, chairman of Van Thinh Phat Holdings Group , was convicted of embezzlement, bribery and violation of banking regulations.
Although she pleaded not guilty to the charges, she was sentenced to death on the embezzlement charge and to 20 years in prison on the other charges.
