The US military carried out an airstrike in southern Somalia, killing two al-Shabaab militants linked to al-Qaeda, including a senior commander. The attack took place 10 kilometres from the town of Quino Barrow.

The strike was carried out on Tuesday about 10 kilometers (six miles) southwest of the town of Quino Barrow, south of Mogadishu.
"Two al-Shabab members were killed in the attack and no civilians were injured. The African Command is taking steps to prevent harm to civilians," the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) said in a statement .
The Somali government issued a statement praising the "carefully planned operation" conducted with "international partners" in the same area.
