UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on the new Haitian government to deploy an international security mission to the islands as soon as possible. This was reported by Reuters, according to UNN.

According to him, the UN Secretary-General also recommended speeding up the implementation of transitional governance mechanisms by the new Haitian government to minimize the influence of gangs on the islands.

The UN Security Council has approved the deployment of a security mission to Haiti. The mission's goal is to help the Haitian authorities fight gangs operating in the country. Last year alone, there were more than 3,000 murders and more than 1,500 kidnappings in Haiti. Large-scale attacks on entire neighborhoods displaced about 200 thousand people.
