The Verkhovna Rada passed a law simplifying the import and circulation of cotton varieties needed for gunpowder production in Ukraine for the period of martial law and for two years after its termination or lifting.

The Verkhovna Rada has passed a law to simplify the registration of cotton used for gunpowder production in Ukraine , the Ministry of Agrarian Policy reported on Wednesday, UNN reports.

Details

"The document simplifies the import and circulation of cotton varieties to Ukraine, which is needed for gunpowder production," the ministry said in a post on social media.

As noted, a simplified procedure for state registration of varieties and state registration of rights to cotton varieties without a qualification examination is established for the period of martial law and within two years from the date of its completion or cancellation.

In particular, as indicated, it is simplified:

  • The procedure for putting cotton seeds into circulation and using them without certification of seed material.
  • The procedure for state registration of varieties or state registration of rights to cotton varieties without a qualification examination.
  • Importation of genetically modified cotton into the customs territory of Ukraine, conducting research, state approvals (tests) and industrial production of genetically modified cotton, as well as products manufactured with its use, without state registration of GMOs and obtaining the relevant permits.

For reference

Cotton is a genus of perennial plants in the mallow family. The plant is an important raw material for gunpowder production.

Recall

There is a global shortage of ammunition due to a shortage of gunpowder caused by increased demand during the war in Ukraine, making procurement of shells very difficult.
