Ukraine is introducing a universal ground station for fiber-optic drones in the military for the first time – Fedorov

Ukraine is for the first time introducing a universal ground station for fiber-optic drones into its army, which is intended to replace a large number of different control systems at the front. This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov, UNN reports.

According to him, fiber-optic drones are currently one of the key means of striking the enemy, as they are capable of operating in conditions of electronic warfare and effectively destroying targets where other solutions lose their effectiveness.

At the same time, operators face the problem of a large number of different ground control stations from various manufacturers. Because of this, when going to positions, they have to take several different systems with them, which complicates their work and takes time.

Our goal is to create a single unified ground station that replaces several different solutions and eliminates unnecessary complexity in the work of units.

– Fedorov noted.

According to him, there are currently two types of such stations – analog and digital. Analog systems remain the most common, on which the main work of the units is currently based.

The minister said that unified technical requirements for analog stations have already been formed, and a prototype has been created that is as close as possible to mass production. This week, the equipment will be transferred to the units for combat testing.

The next stage will be the introduction of digital fiber-optic control systems and the scaling of a single solution along the entire front line.
