Tusk said Europe should be more" selfish " and show more internal solidarity in countering external competition.
He spoke on Thursday after talks with European Parliament President Roberto Mezzola and leaders of various parliamentary political groups about the highlights of the presidency, which he said should be a "breakthrough" time for the EU.
The priorities of the presidency will be " security in all aspects, energy - as one of the main conditions (necessary) for the European Union to regain its full competitiveness, protection of various groups of our citizens, fair competitiveness, in which Europe really has a chance to defeat everyone in the world."
He stressed that the Warsaw presidency comes at a "difficult" and "critical" moment of geopolitical challenges, such as the war in Ukraine, the upcoming presidential elections in Belarus, as well as conflicts and tensions in many parts of the world and political crises in some of the largest European countries. Presidential elections are also to be held in Poland.
According to him, Poland's determination to protect its border with Belarus from the onslaught of migrants is receiving increasing support, and the need to protect borders is becoming a common approach of Europe.
