Turkey has issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in connection with the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian convoy, which was heading to Gaza. Turkey’s Justice Minister Akın Gürlek reported this on August 21, UNN writes.

According to Reuters, the Turkish authorities also intend to appeal to Interpol to have Netanyahu placed on an international wanted list. The warrant concerns a case against 35 people related to the interception of the flotilla in international waters.
According to Gürlek, warrants for Netanyahu and another suspect were issued on charges including genocide, crimes against humanity, and torture. The Turkish minister said that Ankara would use all available legal mechanisms to hold Israel accountable.
In May, Israeli forces intercepted Global Sumud Flotilla vessels that were attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. Turkey had previously issued a domestic arrest warrant for Netanyahu in connection with the war in Gaza.
Netanyahu’s office called Turkey’s new decision an attempt by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to intimidate Israel’s leadership and said it would have no effect.
