U.S. President Donald Trump announced the reinstatement of the blockade of Iranian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. He stated that the U.S. will charge 20% of the cargo value from commercial vessels of other countries.
U.S. President Donald Trump said he would reinstate the blockade of Iranian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and charge a fee for the passage of any other ships, reports UNN.
"The Strait of Hormuz is open and will remain open, with or without Iran. We are reinstating the Iranian blockade, so named because it only prevents the entry and exit of Iranian vessels or their clients. All other countries will have the right to fair and free use of the strait," he wrote in a message on Truth Social.
Trump reiterated that the U.S. will be the "guardians" of the Strait of Hormuz and will charge commercial shippers 20% of the value of their cargo as compensation for ensuring the strait's security.
"From now on, the U.S. will be known as the 'Guardians of the Strait of Hormuz,' but as such, and for reasons of fairness, they will be reimbursed in the amount of 20% of the value of all cargo transported for all costs necessary to ensure security in this very volatile part of the world," he said.
