The monarch does not interfere in politics, but he is in the US on the advice of the government and is tasked with acting in the interests of his people. Given Trump's known affinity for the British royal family, Starmer and his government hope that Charles can smooth things over.

In turn, Sky News reports that during the meeting in the Oval Office, Donald Trump's conversation with the King took place away from the cameras.
However, according to the publication, there was likely a significant number of issues on the King's agenda, and Trump stated that they would discuss "everything."
Present during the conversation were British Ambassador Christian Turner, British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Trump called the King a "friend" and has always spoken highly of the royal family.
They exchanged gifts: Charles presented original drawings of the Oval Office's famous "Resolute Desk" (which was a gift from Queen Victoria), while Trump handed over a historical note on behalf of the first-ever US ambassador to the UK.
And as the King departed for Congress, Trump praised him again, noting that he is a "fantastic person."
