On Monday, the Hungarian parliament approved a constitutional amendment that is set to end Sulyok's term as head of state. The president is expected to sign the document no later than five days after its adoption.

At the same time, Sulyok may still exercise his right to refer the amendment to the Constitutional Court. If the document is not signed within the established deadline, parliament will initiate impeachment proceedings against the president.
The resignation of Tamás Sulyok was demanded by Hungary's new Prime Minister Péter Magyar, who accused the head of state of supporting his predecessor Viktor Orbán.
