Summer heat in South Korea has claimed the lives of 16 people this year, the Ministry of the Interior reported on Tuesday, as the country suffers from scorching weather, writes UNN citing AFP.

From May 15 to August 2, a total of 2025 people suffered from heat-related illnesses, of whom 16 died, according to a ministry statement.
Over the past week, South Korea's heat record was broken three times, with the latest historical maximum set at 42.5°C in the city of Yangsan on Sunday.
On Tuesday, the highest level of "severe heat" warning was issued across Seoul, with temperatures expected to rise again to 40°C.
"Extreme, life-threatening heat is forecast," the meteorological agency said in a statement on Tuesday.
