The U.S. State Department is seeking the transfer of Robert Gilman, who is in a stupor at a hospital in Voronezh. The hospital is not allowing his relatives or diplomats to see him.
The U.S. State Department is seeking to have American Robert Gilman, who is serving a sentence in Russia, transferred to the United States due to a sharp deterioration in his health. Reuters reports this, BBC writes, and UNN reports.

According to the agency, the former U.S. Marine, who was sentenced in Russia in 2022 to 10 years in prison for assaulting police officers and Federal Penitentiary Service employees, was transferred from a penal colony to a civilian hospital in Voronezh in June.
According to Gilman's representatives, he is in a stupor, unable to communicate, receives food and fluids through a tube, and his eyes remain closed.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio raised the issue of Robert Gilman during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Manila on July 23, but no information has been provided about the Russian side's reaction.
Relatives and diplomats are not allowed access to the patient
As Reuters notes, Gilman's current health condition does not allow him to participate in court hearings. At the same time, the hospital is not allowing either his relatives or representatives of the U.S. Embassy to see him.
According to the agency, Robert Gilman is one of at least ten U.S. citizens currently serving sentences in Russia.
