The National Police reported that Police Captain Serhiy Chornyi was killed during an armed attack in the Khmelnytskyi region, UNN reports.

On May 15, 2026, in the village of Terlivka, Letychiv territorial community of the Khmelnytskyi district, an armed attack was carried out against police officers. As a result of the wounds sustained, the 33-year-old police captain died 

According to the National Police, Serhiy dedicated more than fifteen years to service in the internal affairs bodies of Ukraine. In 2014, he graduated from the Lviv State University of Internal Affairs with a degree in Law. Colleagues knew him as a principled, responsible officer, dedicated to his Oath, who was always the first to come to people's aid. 

Serhiy Chornyi served as an inspector of the patrol police response sector of Police Department No. 3 of the Khmelnytskyi District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Khmelnytskyi region. His death is an irreparable loss for his family, colleagues, and the entire police community. The law enforcement officer is survived by his parents, wife, and two children. We bow our heads in grief and express our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. Blessed memory and eternal respect to our colleague, who remained faithful to the service and the Ukrainian people until the very end

In the Khmelnytskyi region, during a document check, a man carried out an armed attack on police officers. As reported by the Khmelnytskyi regional police, one law enforcement officer was killed, another was injured; a special operation has been launched to apprehend the suspect.
