On December 12, an extraordinary meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors adopted a resolution entitled "The Impact of Unstable Energy Infrastructure on the Safety of Nuclear Power Plants." The document condemns attacks on energy facilities that ensure the operation of nuclear power plants and emphasizes the need to protect them.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine welcomed this important initiative, noting that the resolution explicitly recognizes attacks on electrical substations as a threat to nuclear safety.
The resolution calls on the IAEA to continue assessing the consequences of the damage to the energy infrastructure and on Member States to increase financial, technical and political support to strengthen Ukraine's energy security.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that attacks on Ukraine's nuclear power industry pose a risk of a nuclear incident, and only increased international pressure on Russia can force it to stop its aggression.
