Unidentified gunmen opened fire on the SPD party headquarters in Dresden, Germany, a few weeks before the state elections in Saxony: bullet holes were found in the windows on the third floor.

A few weeks before the state elections in Germany's Saxony, unidentified persons shelled the SPD party headquarters in Dresden, UNN reports citing Bild.

Details

The office of the Social Democrats in Saxony is located in the old town of Dresden, a building next to the local parliament on the Elbe River.

The police found bullet holes in the windows on the third floor back in late June, but it became known only now.

"According to the investigation, the damage could have been caused by a firearm. However, the bullets themselves have not yet been found," said police spokesman Carsten Jaeger.

According to law enforcement, the holes in the glass correspond to a caliber of about five millimeters. The incident is being investigated by the German State Security Service.

The very fact that a political motive for this crime cannot be ruled out at this point has prompted us to consider taking additional security measures. But one thing is clear: we will not be intimidated under any circumstances," Henning Homann, leader of the SPD in Saxony, told BILD.

In early May, in Dresden, members of the right-wing extremist group Erblandrevolte attacked SPD politician Matthias Ecke as he was posting campaign posters for the European Parliament elections. Ecke was taken to the hospital with a fractured eye socket and cheekbone. The police detained the attackers, and they are now awaiting trial.
