"On July 1, 2024, during tests in the Norwegian Sea, the modernized Russian deep-sea vehicle AS-36 was damaged," the DIU said in a statement.
As indicated, the modernization of the vehicle was carried out in St. Petersburg at the facilities of the Gunboat Shipyard since 2017. The carrier of the AS-36 was the rescue ship of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation "Mikhail Rudnitsky".
"At the moment of launching the deep-sea vehicle, the crew of the Rudnitsky lost control, which led to a collision between the ship's hull and the AS-36. As a result of the incident, the Russian deep-sea vehicle sustained damage that does not allow it to continue testing," the statement said.
Currently, the Russians are assessing the damage and the time required to repair the AS-36, the DIU noted.
