Russia opposes Western peacekeepers in Ukraine

The Kremlin has rejected proposals to deploy a European peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine. Germany and other Western countries are considering sending peacekeepers if a consensus is reached.

While the Europeans and Americans are reflecting on the post-conflict situation and the possible cessation of active hostilities in Russia's war against Ukraine, the Kremlin has noted that they are not agreeing on a peacekeeping contingent of “British and European forces.

The Kremlin is against sending Western peacekeepers to Ukraine. The deployment of a European peacekeeping contingent as part of a possible end to the long-running conflict and Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine is not acceptable to Moscow, according to a statement by a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Moscow is “certainly not satisfied” with proposals from people around US President-elect Donald Trump to send a “peacekeeping contingent of ‘British and European forces’ to Ukraine,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in a statement released by his ministry today.
