The withdrawal of russian "peacekeeping" troops from Nagorno-Karabakh has begun, with the first contingent and military equipment leaving the area of the Khudavang temple in Kalbajar district, Azerbaijani media report.

According to reports, the first group and military equipment of the "peacekeeping contingent" left the territory of the Khudavang temple in the Kalbajar district. The russian contingent left a few days ago and Azerbaijani police have now entered the area. 

"Thus, the process of withdrawal of the russian "peacekeeping" contingent from the territory of Azerbaijan has begun", - APA reports.

The media also report that this marks the beginning of the process of the final withdrawal of the russian contingent from Azerbaijan. This includes the withdrawal of russians from the base in Khojaly.

The withdrawal of troops was confirmed by kremlin spokesman dmitry peskov, who called it true in a comment to russian media.

Context

The russian contingent was temporarily deployed in Karabakh following a trilateral statement signed on November 10, 2020, between the leaders of Azerbaijan, russia and Armenia.
