On the evening of June 6, the Russians struck two boats of the Maritime Search and Rescue Service that were performing a humanitarian mission within the Ukrainian maritime corridor. This was reported on Telegram by the Vice Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine - Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksiy Kuleba, according to UNN.

Details

There are casualties as a result of the attack. Their evacuation by the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is currently underway.

As Kuleba noted, small coastal search and rescue vessels have special protection in accordance with international humanitarian law.

In particular, Article 27 of the Second Geneva Convention of 1949 explicitly provides for the protection of vessels used by the state or officially recognized rescue organizations exclusively for conducting search and rescue operations and providing assistance to people at sea

- the post reads.

Kuleba added: this attack is yet another piece of evidence of Russia's deliberate disregard for the norms of international law and the creation of a direct threat to the safe functioning of humanitarian maritime corridors in the Black Sea.
