The SBU detained a repeat offender who set fire to an Armed Forces pickup truck in Rivne on the order of the Russian Federation. The offender was planning new arsons and filming videos for Russian information operations.

The Security Service and the National Police have detained another FSB accomplice who was preparing a new series of arson attacks on Defense Forces vehicles in western Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the SBU, UNN reports .

The offender was a repeat offender from Rivne region. He had previously served a sentence for robberies and thefts, which brought him to the attention of the Russian secret service,

It is noted that the FSB remotely involved him in cooperation and in exchange for a monetary reward set a task to set fire to the vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. To fulfill the enemy's task, the defendant walked around the territory of the regional center at night, where he tried to find parked cars of Ukrainian defenders. He managed to set fire to one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces service pickup trucks, after which law enforcement officers detained the offender in hot pursuit.

The FSB accomplice filmed the arson to send it to his Russian handler, with whom he was communicating in an anonymous Telegram chat. The Russian special services planned to use this video to prepare special information operations (SIO) about the alleged existence of an anti-Ukrainian underground in the west of our country.

During the searches of the detainee's apartment, a cell phone with evidence of criminal activity was seized. The police also found flammable mixtures and a bank card, which he hoped to use to receive a cash "reward" from the FSB.

The SBU investigators served the enemy accomplice a notice of suspicion under Part 1 Art. 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (obstruction of lawful activity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations). The offender is in custody. He faces up to 8 years in prison.
