The Center for Strategic Communications responded to the Pope's words about “understanding” between Ukrainians and Russians. The Center emphasized that the rhetoric about “brotherly peoples” is dangerous and plays into the Kremlin's narratives.

The Center pointed out that Ukraine is grateful to the Vatican for its participation in the negotiation process on the return of children abducted by Russia. However, the rhetoric about “fraternal peoples” is “dangerous, because it is used by Russia to justify its encroachment on Ukraine's sovereignty.
“Understanding” between the aggressor and the victim of an unprovoked attack is possible only on the basis of justice, as well as punishment of the perpetrators and compensation for damages. Kyiv is seeking peace, but Moscow has not yet abandoned its goal of seizing Ukraine, continues attacks on the frontline and daily aerial terror against peaceful Ukrainian cities.
