Boris Pistorius has announced that he will not run for the post of German Chancellor. This is his personal decision, despite the support of the SPD and his greater popularity compared to Scholz.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has decided not to run for the post of federal chancellor in the upcoming snap election. The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) had previously called on him to run. This was reported by Reuters, according to UNN.

According to the publication, early elections in Germany are scheduled for February 23. And in mid-November, it became known that the party of current Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the SPD, was considering running Pistorius for this position, who is more popular than the current head of the federal government.
At the same time, the ruling Social Democratic Party of Germany is already lagging behind in the polls, and is in third place after the opposition conservatives and the far right.
On November 21, Pistorius announced that he would not run in the upcoming elections.

Pistorius emphasized that this was his “sovereign and entirely personal decision.
