The President of Ukraine held a meeting on the creation of a 'buffer zone' in the Kursk region. The issues of security, humanitarian aid and compliance with international law in this area were discussed.

At a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the Kursk region, they discussed access to humanitarian aid for representatives of the ICRC, the UN and other impartial international organizations, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets said on Wednesday, UNN reports.

Details

"I joined a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss stabilization measures in the Kursk region. In exercising its right to self-defense, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, Ukraine has the right not only to defend itself, but also to comply with all international conventions and requirements of international humanitarian law. Therefore, our military formed a "buffer (sanitary) zone" in the Kursk region in self-defense," the Ombudsman wrote on Telegram.

According to Lubinets, "together with all the participants of the meeting, we discussed security guarantees in this territory." "This concerns Ukraine's compliance with international humanitarian law, the 1907 Hague Conventions and the Geneva Conventions. The Ukrainian military fully complies with these obligations," the Ombudsman emphasized.

The meeting also discussed the issue of access for representatives of the ICRC, the UN and other impartial international organizations to carry out humanitarian activities. The "buffer zone" should ensure the supply of food, medicines and other items necessary for the civilian population
