The postponement of the men's triathlon event was announced by organizers just hours before the race was scheduled to start Tuesday. Heavy rains over the weekend again resulted in “exceeded limits,” organizers said in a statement. Triathletes' training sessions were canceled earlier Sunday and Monday.
Those races are now scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m. July 31, immediately following the women's races, which are scheduled to start at 8 a.m.
According to the organizers, if the water quality in the Seine still proves insufficient, it is possible to postpone the competition to August 2. However, the national meteorological service Meteo France expects thunderstorms in the evening of July 30, which could again lead to a deterioration in water quality.
