According to the agency, the product tanker Kavomaleas began transmitting signals on Monday morning near the Musandam Peninsula, indicating that the vessel is at anchor and has no cargo. A previous signal was recorded in the Gulf of Oman on Sunday, which may suggest passage through the Strait of Hormuz with the transponder turned off to avoid detection.
Shortly before this, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed that four vessels allegedly attempted to pass through the strait via a "dangerous route," ignoring warnings. According to the IRGC, all of them were moving with their transponders turned off, and two vessels "experienced accidents and stopped."
At the same time, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported receiving information from the military about a vessel on fire northwest of Kumzar in Oman. The cause of the fire has not been determined, and the vessel's name was not disclosed in the report. Bloomberg notes that the specified location is near the position of the Kavomaleas.

According to the agency, the tanker is managed by the Greek company Dynacom Tankers Management. The vessel was chartered to load cargo in the Persian Gulf, but the company did not respond to Bloomberg's request for comment.
The agency also notes that vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz almost completely stopped on Monday morning amid the escalating confrontation between the US and Iran. New incidents could heighten concerns about the safety of navigation on one of the world's most important oil transport routes.
