The Russian military shot five captured Ukrainian defenders near Vuhledar. The prosecutor's office opened a war crime investigation into the killing of unarmed prisoners of war.
Near Vuhledar, Donetsk region, Russian occupants shot dead five captured Ukrainian soldiers, an investigation has been launched, the Prosecutor General's Office reported, UNN reported.
According to operational data, on October 2, 2024, Russian Armed Forces servicemen stormed the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the town of Vuhledar. During the offensive, the occupiers captured 5 unarmed Ukrainian defenders. They killed one of them in a forest belt, and took four of them to the road under the sights of automatic weapons, where they also shot them
The OGP reminded that the killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a serious international crime.
Under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation was initiated in the criminal proceedings on the fact of committing a war crime that resulted in the death of people (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Urgent investigative and search activities are underway to establish all the circumstances of the incident.
