Mircea Lucescu has concluded his tenure as head coach of the Romanian national team. This was announced by the Romanian Football Federation, which officially declared the end of his second term at the helm of the team, writes UNN.

The Federation stated that under Lucescu's leadership, the Romanian national team had a successful period, particularly in the Nations League, where the team managed to qualify for the March play-offs for the World Cup. During his second stint as head coach, the Romanians achieved 11 victories, one draw, and six defeats.
Razvan Burleanu, President of the Romanian Football Federation, stated that Lucescu "accepted this challenge and came to give his all for Romania," and also noted his "boundless passion and dedication." The federation separately thanked the coach for his work and for how he represented Romanian football at the international level.

Lucescu's second arrival to the Romanian national team began in August 2024, when he signed a two-year contract with the main goal of leading the team to the 2026 World Cup.
Lucescu may remain within the Federation's structure
The Federation also stated that they want to continue cooperating with the 80-year-old specialist, but outside of the coaching bench.
According to Burleanu, Lucescu may be invited to the administrative structure of the Romanian Football Federation to use his many years of experience for the development of coaches and players.
This was Lucescu's second period working with the Romanian national team. The first was in the early 1980s, when he led the team to Euro 1984 – the first ever final tournament of the European Championship for the Romanian national team.
