In the Russian town of Suzha, which is controlled by Ukrainian troops, the Lenin monument remains in place, although damaged. The BBC denied the information about its demolition, which had been spread earlier on social media.
The monument to Vladimir Lenin is still standing in a Russian court in the Kursk region, although it is somewhat damaged by the fighting. This was reported by the BBC and UNN .
“Lenin has been decommunized” - this information, along with this photo, was spread on social media on August 16. A number of media outlets, the advisor to the head of the President's office, Daria Zarivna, and the Ministry of Culture published the news of the demolition of the monument in the center of the town of Sudzha, which is now controlled by Ukrainian troops, but it was soon removed.
The BBC was able to verify this information. Their source in Suja reportedly sent a video shot on the afternoon of August 17, which shows the monument in place, albeit somewhat damaged by the fighting.
And if it were demolished by Ukrainians, it would be illegal, says Fedir Venislavsky, a member of the National Security and Defense Committee.
I think that after the military commandant's office is established, the commandant and his subordinates will make sure that cultural monuments, no matter how much we like or dislike them, are not demolished, and that humanitarian law is not violated.
