In Kazakhstan held another court hearing on the scandalous case of murder with particular cruelty of the wife of the former Minister of Economy of Kazakhstan - Saltanat Nukenova. Details
Journalists notedthat during the interrogation Bakhytzhan Baizhanov read everything off the paper. He said that he was very sorry for not being able to help Saltanat and apologized to her family. He also stated that he regretted that his "thoughtlessness and lack of awareness did not allow him to see the criticality of Saltanat's condition".
Bishimbayev called me over and asked me to help. I went into the stall. It seemed to me that Saltanat's breathing became more frequent and louder. I decided that she was sleeping. I was not alarmed. I thought they had been up all night drinking alcohol and she was very tired. Now I realize that my inattention had blamed her frequent breathing on fatigue.
The defendant also said that when he entered the VIP-cabin, he saw a lot of broken dishes, plaster and a broken door, but he was not surprised because Bishimbayev had previously beaten his wife. He also noted that "this is the fourth door" broken in the process of the spouses' relationship.
I was not surprised, because (between Bishimbayev and Nukenova - ed.) quarrels that turn into fights with damage to furniture have become commonplace.
The defendant emphasized that he "could not influence this situation, although he felt sorry for Saltanat".
My Kazakh mentality, Kazakh upbringing and my modest character did not allow me to point and give advice to Bishimbayev, who is much older than me, or to interfere in their family life or relationships.
The court session ended after questions to the defendant from the judge, followed by a recess until April 15.
Context
The main trial in the case began March 27 with a jury trial.
The husband of the murdered woman statesthat there was no intent to kill. However, the former official admits that he and his wife Saltanat had previously fought. The ex-official admits that he and his wife Saltanat had previously had fights, saying that his common-law wife was nervous, aggressive, psychologically unstable, constantly harassing him with suspicions of infidelity, jealous, and abusing alcoholic beverages.
Forensic examination in the case of his murder indicates that ex-Minister of Economy of Kazakhstan Bishimbayev could have strangled his wife. The expert noted that the woman was not only hit on the head many times, but also strangled.
Together with the former official in the dock is his relative Bakhytzhan Baizhanov, who is charged with concealment and failure to report a crime. Earlier, at the trial, he admitted that he asked to delete the video recordings from the surveillance cameras and to take Saltanat Nukenova's phone home to hide the geolocation.
