In Slovenia, liberal Golob failed to form a government, now a Trump supporter will try - media

Slovenian acting Prime Minister Robert Golob stated that his party failed to form a new government after the parliamentary elections. This could pave the way for the populist Janez Janša and a right-wing coalition to return to power. Politico writes about this, as reported by UNN.

Golob's liberal Freedom Movement won the elections last month by a narrow margin, securing 29 out of 90 seats in parliament. However, the party failed to gather a majority to form a coalition.

After a month of fruitless negotiations, Golob informed President Nataša Pirc Musar that his political force was moving into opposition.

Now, the leader of the Slovenian Democratic Party, Janez Janša, whose party won 28 mandates, gets a chance to form a government. He is expected to try to create a right-wing coalition.

Janša himself, after meeting with the president, admitted that he currently does not have enough support, but noted that his party is satisfied with all possible developments.

"All three options are good for us – government, opposition, or repeat elections," Janša said.

Politico notes that if Janša returns to power, he will once again represent Slovenia in the European Council.

The publication also notes that the politician has repeatedly expressed sympathy for US President Donald Trump.
