In March 2026, at least 211 civilians were killed and 1206 were injured in Ukraine as a result of the war. This was reported by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission, writes UNN.

The number of civilian casualties increased by 49% compared to February and by 29% year-on-year, becoming the highest since July 2025. Most of the casualties were caused by long-range weapons, including missiles and drones, which accounted for 36% of all casualties.

The second main cause was short-range drones, which caused the largest number of civilian deaths in March. A significant proportion of casualties also resulted from artillery shelling and air strikes near the front line.

In total, 63% of casualties were recorded in areas of active hostilities, with elderly people accounting for half of the fatalities. At the same time, 97% of all casualties occurred in territories controlled by the government of Ukraine.

In the first quarter of 2026, the number of civilian casualties increased by 20% compared to the same period last year. The impact of attacks on critical infrastructure, particularly railways, which affected at least 14 regions in March and complicated evacuation and aid delivery, is noted separately.
