Greek authorities have arrested a 70-year-old French citizen on suspicion of causing a major forest fire in the Loutraki area. According to preliminary data, the man was performing agricultural work without complying with the necessary fire safety regulations. This was reported by Kathimerini, according to UNN.

Investigators established that while attempting to cut a tree with specialized equipment, the tool's blade struck a rock at high speed. This resulted in a spark that caused an ignition in the Perachora area. Upon arrival at the scene, officers from the arson investigation unit detained the man.
The fire spread rapidly, prompting an emergency warning to local residents urging them to follow the instructions of the authorities. According to the fire service, there is currently no threat to residential buildings, and the fire itself is gradually subsiding.
106 firefighters, five specialized units, 30 fire engines, planes, and helicopters were involved in extinguishing the fire. Volunteers are also participating in the efforts, and the situation is being continuously monitored using drones equipped with optical and thermal imaging cameras.
