Attal said: "I did not choose this dissolution, and I refused to submit to it.
He emphasized that no absolute majority can govern the country in such a situation.
"It is the honor of my life to be prime minister," he said to the French, pointing out that the center-left camp did not win a majority.
"Thus, in keeping with republican tradition, I will submit my resignation to the president tomorrow morning," Attal said.
He also added that he would fulfill his duties as long as his duty required. The Elysee Palace had announced shortly before that President Emmanuel Macron would wait for the new Assembly to be "structured" to make the necessary decisions.
Attal noted that many French people feel a certain uncertainty due to the lack of an absolute majority. "Our country is going through an unprecedented political situation and is preparing to face the world in a few weeks," he said.
He emphasized that the fate of France "will be decided more than ever in the parliament.
"A new era begins tonight," Attal added.
