On Sunday, an explosion in a building in northeastern Myanmar killed more than 40 people. Explosives for the mining industry were reportedly stored in the building. About 70 others were injured, rescuers said. This was reported by DW, according to UNN.

The explosion occurred in the town of Namkham, about three kilometers south of the Chinese border. The area is controlled by the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) rebel group.
The exact death toll is currently unknown. According to rescuers, between 40 and 46 people were killed, with children among the victims. About 70 people were injured.
At the same time, AFP sources claim that the death toll from the explosion ranges from 46 to 59.
Myanmar has been engulfed in civil war since the military seized power in 2021, when a coup overthrew the democratic government led by Aung San Suu Kyi.
