russia's attack on Ukraine's power grid on March 22 was the largest ever in a full-scale invasion, damaging power generation and distribution facilities, and the recovery process is expected to take a long time.

The russian attack on Ukraine's energy system on Friday, March 22, was the largest in the history of full-scale invasion. This was stated by YASNO CEO Serhiy Kovalenko  during a telethon, UNN reports.

Details

The same DTEK group has lost 50% of its generating capacity. (...) We will find out how much time and money it will take to restore it in a few more days. I can say for sure that this process will take more than a day, a week or a month

- Kovalenko said.

At night and in the morning of March 22, russians shelled energy infrastructure in several regions simultaneously.

"Yes, it was one of the worst attacks in the last two years" - Yasno CEOMarch 22 2024, 03:49 PM • 29671 view

The enemy attacked two parts of the system at once - the generating and distribution systems. To start with the former, several types of generation were hit - about 20 substations and the Dnipro hydroelectric power plant. Many of the attacks were on transformers and network nodes that distribute energy. Therefore, this attack can be considered a complex one, as it reduces the ability of our system to generate and transmit

- YASNO CEO explained .

Recall

On the morning of March 24 , a russian attack damaged the above-ground infrastructure of Ukraine's underground gas storage facilities, but did not affect gas supplies to consumers due to the availability of sufficient backup capacity.
