An attempt to send anime action figures worth almost UAH 700,000 by international mail failed due to undeclared goods. Kyiv customs officers found 4,270 undeclared anime-style figures during the inspection of five international mail shipments. The parcels, filled with colorful figures, were sent from China to a recipient in Rivne region.
The sender announced that the contents of each parcel consisted of "100 keychains" with a symbolic value of USD 50, and there were five such mailings in total. However, customs officers found that the total value of these anime character figurines, which are a collector's item for fans around the world, was almost 700 thousand hryvnias.
As the actual quantity and value of the goods did not match the declared data, Kyiv Customs drew up reports on violation of customs rules under Part 2 of Article 471 of the Customs Code of Ukraine, which entails a fine of 30 percent of the value of the goods. Anime figures temporarily seized as evidence in the case of violation of customs rules
