According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, 38-year-old Janine John Taele was spotted on the grounds of the Trump National golf club in Rancho Palos Verdes, where he was taking photos, recording videos, and, according to investigators, monitoring the preparation of security measures ahead of the president's arrival.
The man was detained on suspicion of concealed carry of a firearm and possession of prohibited ammunition. During the check, it also turned out that he was wanted by police in a robbery case.
During searches, weapons and a bulletproof vest were seized
Law enforcement reported that during the arrest, the man was found with a 16-round magazine with hollow-point ammunition, and in a car parked near the golf club, a loaded pistol and another magazine with the same ammunition were found.
Later, FBI agents and detectives conducted a search of the suspect's home, where they seized an illegally modified AR-platform rifle, a .45 caliber pistol, a bulletproof vest, high-capacity magazines, a significant amount of ammunition, as well as several notebooks with "disturbing notes".
The investigation is ongoing with the participation of the U.S. Secret Service. Law enforcement does not rule out additional charges.
At the same time, the Sheriff's Department emphasized that they did not find a "real threat to the public." Officials also did not report that the detainee intended to harm Donald Trump, and he has not yet been charged with any offenses related to a possible assassination attempt on the U.S. president.
