It concerns 40-year-old Kyrylo Basin, who has been charged with two counts of threats of physical harm. The court set his bail at $1 million.
According to police, the incident occurred after a 61-year-old man asked Basin to turn down the music. In response, according to the investigation, he stated that he had a firearm and threatened to shoot the man's wife.
During the conflict, when a witness intervened between the men and a fight broke out, Basin, according to police, pulled out a knife and began threatening several people. After that, he allegedly threw the knife into the ocean.
Police report other incidents
Law enforcement also reported that since May, Basin has been detained multiple times in connection with other incidents involving assaults and property damage.
Maui County Councilmember Thomas Cook stated that he fears for his own safety and the safety of his staff after Basin disrupted a county council meeting in May.
According to Cook, during that incident, Basin "became aggressive and confrontational" and also threatened to use violence against police officers and county council members.
