A man who attacked passers-by with a knife is detained in Berlin

Near the Rewe supermarket in the Charlottenburg district, a man with a mental disorder attacked passersby with a knife. Two people were seriously injured and the attacker was detained.

The incident occurred around 11:50 a.m. in front of the Rewe supermarket on Quedlinburger Straße in the Charlottenburg district, which is considered a fairly quiet area. It is also close to Charlottenburg Palace.
According to information, the suspect suffers from a mental disorder. He behaved extremely aggressively, stabbing indiscriminately. Several passers-by managed to neutralize the attacker.
While the attacker was being held, other witnesses called the police. Arriving law enforcement officers detained the man and took him in for questioning.
The victims are currently in hospital.
There is no evidence yet of an Islamic or terrorist nature of the attack.
Berlin authorities are conducting an investigation, in which the state security agency is also involved.
