A large-scale fire broke out at the Playa de s'Arenal resort in Mallorca in a five-story apartment building, injuring at least five people, while several residents may have remained trapped inside. This is reported by the Daily Mail, writes UNN.

The fire broke out at around 6:45 p.m. local time on the first floor of a building in Playa de s'Arenal on Mallorca's southern coast, not far from the island's airport. After receiving several reports of a fire, police officers, paramedics, and firefighters promptly arrived at the scene.
According to preliminary data, people remained in the building at the time of the fire. Some eyewitnesses who were on the beach reported thick black smoke rising above the building to emergency services.
Rescuers evacuated people from the building. Local media report that four or five people who were unable to escape on their own climbed onto the roof to facilitate the rescue operation.
At least three people, according to preliminary data, suffered smoke inhalation. The fire was reportedly brought under control. At least two ambulance crews were working at the scene, while dozens of people watched the emergency services operate from the street.
The injured and the rescue operation
It is currently unknown whether there were tourists among the people in the building, or which countries they were citizens of.
Playa de s'Arenal is located at the southeastern end of the continuous Playa de Palma beach area. Administratively, the resort is divided between the municipalities of Palma and Llucmajor.
