"Drone-missile" exploded in Moldova for the first time; fragments were found in a village

On August 9, a combat aircraft exploded in the village of Crocmaz, Moldova. It crashed into a tree at a height of 2.5 m; there were no casualties, but households were damaged. This is the first case of its kind in the country.

Earlier in the morning, Moldova’s police reported that they had received information about a powerful explosion in the settlement of Crocmaz, which caused vegetation to catch fire.
"The police established that no one was injured as a result of the object’s fall and the fire. Fragments of a combat drone were preliminarily found at the scene," the statement said.
According to the investigation, the drone struck a tree and exploded at a height of 2.5 m.
"The police report that the investigation at the site of the aircraft’s fall and explosion in the rural area of the village of Crocmaz, Ștefan Vodă district, has been completed. Experts established that the explosion occurred at a height of approximately 2.5 meters as a result of the aircraft colliding with a tree in a forest belt. No casualties were recorded, while fragments of the aircraft were scattered over a large area, damaging several households in the settlement," the statement said.
According to preliminary data, the fragments found have characteristics similar to those of components of a guided missile, indicating that the aircraft may have been a "drone missile" type. We note that, to date, no instance of identification of an aircraft of this type has been recorded on the territory of the Republic of Moldova
As stated, "investigations are ongoing to establish the exact type and origin of the aircraft, as well as all the circumstances of the incident."
