John Kirby, a spokesman for the National Security Council, told reporters that the meeting in Qatar was a "promising start." However, the official emphasized that no ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip would be reached in Doha.

“There is still a lot of work to be done. Given the complexity of the deal, we do not expect to conclude these negotiations with a deal today,” he said.

Kirby noted that the remaining obstacles can be overcome.

We need to see the release of hostages, aid to Palestinian civilians in Gaza, security for Israel, and a reduction in tensions in the region, and we need to see these things as soon as possible

- Kirby said.

Recall

Former US President Trump discussed the hostage situation and the ceasefire in Gaza with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. The conversation took place on the eve of an important round of talks in Doha involving the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Israel.

UNN previously reported that the leaders of the United States, Egypt and Qatar initiated urgent talks between Israel and Hamas on August 15 to conclude a ceasefire and release of hostages.
