Kaja Kallas stated there was a lack of progress following the conversation between Trump and Putin. She emphasized the lack of pressure on Russia and unresolved issues regarding peace.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas reacted to yesterday's phone call between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, stating that their discussions always seem to leave some questions unanswered, UNN reports, citing The Guardian.

Speaking at a meeting of the NB8—the foreign ministers of the Baltic and Nordic countries—in Estonia, Kallas "sighed deeply even before approaching the podium to answer questions about the phone call, not entirely hiding what she thought of these negotiations," the publication writes.

Kallas said that peace talks regarding Ukraine seem to be "stalling," and it is unclear to her whether any significant progress was made in the conversation between Trump and Putin.

When we see these calls between president Trump and president Putin, always there are a lot of questions unanswered

Kallas said.

She also pointed to the paradox of these negotiations, given that "Russia is openly praising Iran's heroic [struggle] against America."

Kallas said the EU would like to see more pressure put on Russia, and "we did not see that in that conversation."

Earlier, she stated that the EU is examining "what our demands to Russia are after this war ends" before it can hold meaningful negotiations with Moscow.
