But they cited the effectiveness of the strikes and their apparent precision, as well as broader technical support from Russia to Iran, as possible evidence.

"They (Iran and the Russian Federation - ed.) share an interest in trying to reduce or completely eliminate U.S. influence in their self-proclaimed spheres of influence. ... It would not be surprising if Moscow is helping Tehran attack CIA facilities, given their close strategic partnership," said former CIA station chief and covert operations officer Daniel Hoffman.
