Iran launched a new series of missile and drone strikes on Sunday against U.S. military facilities in the Persian Gulf countries, expanding the geography of attacks amid the ongoing conflict with the United States. Reuters reports, writes UNN.

According to the agency, the current wave of attacks has become one of the largest in recent times. Qatar, which serves as a mediator in ceasefire negotiations, came under attack. This is the first attack on the country since April. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates stated that their air defense forces intercepted Iranian missiles and drones.

Iranian media also reported explosions near the strategic port of Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island, where military facilities are located. According to their data, the U.S. carried out a new round of strikes on these areas, while Iranian forces simultaneously attacked Kuwait.
The ceasefire is under threat
Reuters notes that the new escalation casts doubt on the future of the temporary agreement between the U.S. and Iran, concluded last month. Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he considers the ceasefire regime over, although he did not rule out new negotiations.
The agency recalls that the war between the U.S., Israel, and Iran, which has been ongoing since February 28, is increasingly engulfing the Persian Gulf countries where American military bases are located. The escalation of the conflict is already affecting global energy markets, contributing to rising oil and fuel prices.
