Germany is considering purchasing four additional Patriot air defense systems for $1.3 billion. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources, UNN reports.
Germany is considering buying four additional Patriot missile defense systems worth 1.2 billion euros ($1.3 billion) in addition to the four ordered by Chancellor Olaf Scholz's government in March
It is noted that the plans are at an early stage, and officials are still evaluating how to finance the expanded order, which could raise the total cost to about 2.6 billion euros.
Thus, the Scholz government may double the size of the order to eight Patriot air defense systems.
A Defense Ministry spokesperson in Berlin declined to comment on specific procurement projects, instead referring generally to the government's desire to better equip the armed forces.
Addendum
Earlier, the German Ministry of Defense announced the transfer of another Patriot system to Ukraine.
On April 13, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that work was underway with Germany on an additional IRIS-T system - also a strong air defense system - and on missiles for the air defense systems we have.
