Protesters took to the streets across Venezuela, demanding that Maduro concede defeat, even though the electoral body said he had won a third term with 51% of the vote.
The opposition, which believes that the electoral body is in the pocket of the dictatorial government, said that its candidate, Edmundo Gonzalez, won more than twice as many votes as Maduro, based on 90% of the vote count data it was able to access.
