Slovakia will challenge energy sanctions against Russia in court due to a violation of the principle of unanimous voting. Bratislava demands the cancellation of gas limits.

The Slovak government plans to officially appeal to the court by April 27 due to disagreement with the procedure for adopting energy sanctions against the Russian Federation. Bratislava will insist on a preliminary court ruling, as it considers the EU regulation to contradict the fundamental treaties of the union. This was stated by Prime Minister Robert Fico, Reuters reports, writes UNN.

The main claim of the Slovak side is that decisions on sanctions and foreign policy should be made unanimously, not by a majority vote.

According to the Slovak government, this is a clear violation of all the principles on which the EU treaties are based

- Fico said.

Earlier, a similar lawsuit was already filed by Hungary, which also continues to receive Russian energy carriers.

As the publication notes, both countries continued to receive Russian gas despite EU efforts to end the bloc's dependence on Russian energy resources and reduce funding for Moscow's war against Ukraine.
