Today, July 15, the final tournament of the European Under-19 Championship begins in Northern Ireland. Among the eight participants is the youth national team of Ukraine (players not older than 2005), reports UNN with reference to the UAF.
Our team's opening match against the hosts will take place in Larne at the Inver Park stadium . The game starts at 19:00 local time (21:00 Kyiv time). It will be recalled that Norway and Italy are also in our group. The other quartet includes Denmark, Turkey, France and Spain.
"Our goal is to get into the top four teams. We hope for this and will do our best to go as far as possible, - said the day before at a press conference the head coach of our youth team, Dmitry Mikhailenko. - I am sure that there will be pressure in the opening match, there will be fans in the stands. Regardless of which part of the UK the teams play in, they are fiercely supported. There will be whistling and shouting, and we have to be ready for that. Just like we have to be prepared for any external circumstances, for the wind, for the fact that the Northern Ireland players will be super motivated. We must respond with calmness when we are with the ball, aggressiveness if necessary, pressing in every area of the field and being confident in ourselves and our game. Each player feels the responsibility and importance of the opening match in tournaments such as the European Championship.
It should be added that the top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals. On July 28, the main trophy will be played at Windsor Park in Belfast. The match for third place is not foreseen, but for the fifth - will take place, as it will be five representatives that Europe will delegate to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will be held in Chile with the participation of 24 teams. Therefore, the winner of the match between the third teams of the groups will join the four semifinalists.
