Electricity consumption has peaked due to the heat wave, with blackout schedules in place throughout the day and more from 4 p.m. onwards. There will be less electricity imports, as the heat has affected consumption in neighboring countries as well. This was reported by NPC Ukrenergo on Monday, UNN reports.
Details
"Today, on July 15, regional power distribution companies are limiting consumption throughout the day. Due to the abnormal heat in Ukraine and Europe, according to the forecast, consumption has reached its maximum and significantly exceeds the capacity of Ukrainian power plants to cover it. To compensate for the energy deficit in the system, three rounds of hourly blackout schedules will be in effect until 16:00 today, and four rounds from 16:00 to 24:00," the statement said.
Emergency assistance
Reportedly, on Sunday, July 14, from 01:00 to 07:00, Ukrenergo used emergency supplies from the power systems of Poland and Slovakia to reduce the deficit. Yesterday, from 11:00 to 18:00, the Ukrainian power system received surplus power from the Polish power system. Last night, the Polish power system also provided emergency power supplies to the Ukrainian power system.
Import and export
Imports - during the day from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary in the total amount of 25,126 MWh, with a maximum capacity of 1,336 MW. Due to abnormal heat and increased consumption in Europe, the volume of imports decreased. No exports are taking place and are not expected.
